Pecopteris Fern Fossil from Coal City, Illinois (Mazon Creek). Measures 8.25 x 3 inches, weighs 3lb 2.1oz. Both sides of the nodule are visible.Collected between the mid 1940's and mid 1950's during day trips from Chicago to Coal City. These fossils were sourced from the mounds of earth left from strip mining. Now, the land has been leveled and many fossils have been re-buried.Photos are of the actual item for sale.
